Classroom economy · Family letter
Dear families,
This year our class runs on its own economy. Students earn class money (it isn't real money and can't be spent outside our room) and use it to practice the same choices adults make every month.
What your student will do
- Work. Students apply for class jobs with a written application and earn a paycheck on payday.
- Pay bills. Rent and other bills come due on a schedule, just like at home.
- Spend. Our class store sells privileges and small rewards. Saving up is part of the plan.
- Save. Students can move money to savings and set a goal.
- Do the math. Students work out their own new balance every time money comes in or goes out.
We'll track it in , so your student can show you their balance any time.
Questions to ask at home
- What job do you have, and what does it pay?
- What are you saving for? How long until you get there?
- What did you buy this month? Was it worth it?
- What would happen if you didn't pay rent?
Thank you for helping your student connect what we do in class to real life. If you have questions, I'd love to hear from you.
