Help center
How can we help?
Quick answers for students and teachers. Some features only show up if your teacher has turned them on, so if you can't find something, it may not be part of your class yet.
Nothing matches that yet. Try a shorter word, or email support@cashroomapp.com.
Signing in
How do I sign in?
Go to cashroomapp.com/app (or tap Sign in on the home page). Students use the username or student ID their teacher gave them. Teachers use their teacher ID and password.
What's my password the first time?Students
Your username or student ID. Type it in both boxes. Right after that, Cashroom asks you to make your own password before you can see anything else.
What counts as a good password?Students
At least 6 characters, without your username or ID inside it. Very common passwords are turned away. A short phrase you'll remember, like a favorite food plus a number, works well.
I forgot my password.
Students: ask your teacher to reset it. Your password goes back to your username or ID, and you make a new one when you sign in.
Teachers: use "Forgot password?" on the sign-in screen with the recovery code you saved when your account was made.
It says I've tried too many times.
After 5 wrong passwords in a row, sign-in pauses for 15 minutes to stop guessing. Wait it out, or ask your teacher to reset your password, which unlocks it right away.
Why did Cashroom sign me out?
Students are signed out after 3 hours and teachers after 12, so nobody stays signed in on a shared Chromebook.
Does it work on a Chromebook or phone?
Yes. Cashroom runs in any up-to-date web browser, so there's nothing to install.
Money and the math check
Why is my money "pending"?
When money comes in or goes out (a paycheck, a bill, a purchase, a fine), you record it by working out your new balance. Until you do, it shows as waiting. Record the oldest one first.
While anything is pending, you can't buy from the store, buy coupons, or bid.
What if I get the math wrong?
Nothing bad happens. Try again. After your second miss you'll get a hint. Line up the decimal points, and remember money coming in adds while money going out subtracts.
My teacher recorded something for me. Is that OK?
Yes. Teachers can record pending items for a student who was absent, and some students have the math check turned off. Your balance is correct either way.
What happens if my checking goes below $0?
Bills and fines can take checking below zero. While you're below $0 you can't shop, buy coupons, or bid, and your teacher gets an alert. A bill that drops you below zero also counts as a late payment on your credit.
You can still move money from savings to checking to fix it.
How does savings work?
Move money from checking into savings any time, and back again. You can set a savings goal with a name and an amount and watch the progress bar fill. If your teacher pays savings interest, it arrives on their schedule.
Jobs and paydays
What's the Student job?
Every student holds it automatically, so you get paid for being a student. Your teacher sets what it pays (or turns it off). You don't apply for it.
How do I apply for a job?
Open the Jobs tab, pick an open job, and answer two short questions. Each answer needs at least 10 characters, so explain yourself. Your teacher reads it and hires or passes, and you'll get a message either way.
How many jobs can I have?
Your teacher sets the limit. A common setup is two jobs total, counting the Student job.
When is payday?
On your teacher's schedule. Paychecks show up on their own that day, and you record them like any other money.
Store, coupons, and auctions
I bought something. Why don't I have it yet?
Most teachers approve orders before handing them over. You'll get a message when they decide. If an order isn't approved, your money comes back and so does any coupon you used.
How do coupons work?
A coupon takes dollars or a percent off one item or the whole store. Your teacher can give you one, sell them in the store, or share a code to type in. Each coupon works once, and only before it expires.
How do auctions work?
Bid at least the starting price, then at least the top bid plus the minimum raise. Your top bid is held from checking until someone outbids you or the auction ends. If you win, you're charged automatically, and you record it like a purchase.
Why won't the store let me buy?
Usually one of these: something is still pending, checking is below $0, you don't have enough (bids you're winning count as spent), the item is sold out, or the store is closed. If you have a loan, see "Why is my store limit $5?" below.
Credit scores and loans
Why does it say "No score yet"?
Real people with no credit history don't have a score, and neither do you until your first on-time or late payment. Paying a bill without going below $0 gives you your first score.
How do I raise my credit score?
Scores run from 300 to 850 and use the same kinds of factors real scores do:
- Payment history counts most. Pay bills and loan payments on time. One late payment cancels out three on-time ones.
- Amount owed: owing less of your loan helps.
- Length of history: your score grows as your record gets older.
- New credit: lots of loan applications in a month lowers it a little.
- Track record: paying off a loan helps.
Your job and how much you earn are not part of the score.
Who can get a loan?
You need a job from the job board (the Student job doesn't count), no loan already open, and a weekly payment that fits your pay. Usually that means the payment can be no more than 40% of your weekly pay. Your credit score decides how much you can borrow and your interest rate.
How is loan interest figured?
Simple interest: I = Prt. P is the amount you borrow, r is the monthly rate, and t is time in months, where a month is 4 weeks.
Borrow $20 at 8% per month for 4 weeks: I = 20 × 0.08 × 1 = $1.60. You repay $21.60 in four weekly payments of $5.40. When you apply, you work out the interest and the total yourself.
Real loans quote a yearly rate (APR). Cashroom uses monthly rates so the numbers stay friendly.
What if I miss a loan payment?
It goes late the day after it's due. You're charged a late fee, your score drops, and your teacher is alerted. Turn on autopay to have payments made on the due date, as long as you have enough in checking.
Can I pay my loan off early?
Yes, with "Pay it all off now" on the Credit tab. You only owe interest for the weeks you actually had the loan (part of a week counts as a week), so paying early saves you money. Cashroom shows how much.
Why is my store limit $5?
You can spend your loan money however you like. Once you've used the amount you borrowed, each store purchase is capped at $5 until the loan is paid off. The Credit tab shows how much of your loan money you've used.
Badges
How do I earn badges?
There are 14 automatic badges for things like your first paycheck, saving $25, getting 10 money calculations right, and paying off a loan. Your teacher can also make special badges, which show as mystery badges until you earn one. Open your badge collection from Home to see what's left.
I did the thing. Where's my badge?
Automatic badges appear the next time you open Cashroom, or within a few minutes if you're already in it.
For teachers
How do I get a teacher account?Teachers
Cashroom is in a classroom pilot right now, and new teacher accounts open after it. Email support@cashroomapp.com to hear when they do.
I gave the wrong award. Can I undo it?Teachers
Yes. Bonuses, fines, and other plain transactions undo from History. Purchases, loans, and auctions are reversed from their own screens (deny the order, close the auction with no winner) so every connected balance is fixed too.
Can I turn off the math check for one student?Teachers
Yes. Open the student's card on the Class tab and switch it off for them. Everyone else keeps doing the math.
How do I reset a student's password?Teachers
Open the student's card and choose "Reset password to ID." It also unlocks them if they were paused. The roster shows which students are still on their starting password.
Can I get my data out?Teachers
Yes. Download your roster or transactions as a CSV file that opens in any spreadsheet, any time.
What's the bell for?Teachers
It collects everything that needs you: job and loan applications, store orders, missed loan payments, students below $0, and auctions that closed. Tap an alert to jump right to it.
Privacy
What does Cashroom store about students?
A first name and last initial, a username or student ID, their class, a scrambled password, and their class-money activity. Never full last names, emails, or home information.
Does Cashroom have ads, tracking, or AI?
No ads, no tracking, and no AI features. Student data is never sold, shared, or sent to AI services.
How does a school get its data back or deleted?
Email support@cashroomapp.com. A copy comes back within 10 school days. Deleted data is gone once backups roll off after 30 days, and you get written confirmation. The privacy policy has the details.
Still stuck? Students, ask your teacher first; they can fix most things from their screen. Teachers and families can email support@cashroomapp.com. Please never send a student password.
